Getting consumer loan approvals disbursed in real time and paying at store counters across the Philippines is getting a major upgrade through the national QR standard.

For borrowers and shoppers, waiting hours for consumer loan payouts or navigating incompatible checkout terminals is a persistent headache.

  • The integration of national QR Ph rails aims to eliminate these friction points by uniting consumer credit payouts and store checkout systems into a single, automated infrastructure.
  • Skyro borrowers will gain access to real-time credit disbursements directly to their preferred accounts, while shoppers can complete purchases at retail counters using any QR Ph-compatible app or digital wallet.

Tapping into Nationwide Payment Infrastructure

The technical heavy lifting is driven by a new partnership between digital wallet operator Coins.ph and SEC-registered fintech lender Skyro, finalized at the ASEAN Tech Summit in Pasay City.

Under the agreement, Skyro will tap Coins.ph’s automated payout infrastructure to power its cash distributions, merchant settlements, and loan disbursements. In return, Coins.ph expands the daily utility of its payment rails into Skyro’s network of over 10,000 partner retail locations and 4,000 merchant outlets nationwide.

“Through our joint work in QR Ph acceptance and disbursements, we are making interoperable digital payments faster, safer, and far more accessible,” said Coins.ph CEO Wei Zhou.

Skyro President Anthony Co highlighted that utilizing robust payout and QR rails supports the company’s push into regional provinces outside major metro areas, ensuring financial products remain accessible wherever consumers are located.

Riding a ₱25 Trillion Cashless Surge

The timing aligns with unprecedented growth in the Philippine digital economy. Transaction volumes across the country hit nearly ₱25 trillion, fueled by a 216 percent surge in electronic fund transfers processed through clearing houses like InstaPay and PESONet. Coins.ph and Skyro plan to roll out the integrated payment acceptance and instant disbursement capabilities across their digital channels over the coming months.
