Managing monthly expenses in the Philippines often means juggling multiple mobile wallets and banking apps just to cover electricity, internet, and government fees. Coins.ph is moving to reduce that friction by doubling its in-app bills payment lineup and cutting down settlement times for daily obligations.

According to the press release, through a direct integration with payment network Bayad, Coins.ph has expanded its biller directory to nearly 300 merchants across 17 distinct categories. The upgrade allows users to settle major utility bills like Meralco, telecommunications plans, government contributions, and bank loans without switching platforms or visiting physical payment centers.

What Changes for Users

The biggest operational shift for users is payment speed.

By upgrading to direct API links with Bayad’s network, Coins.ph now offers Real-Time Posting (RTP) for core utility and service providers. This ensures payments process and post within 24 hours, eliminating the multi-day lag that often triggers late-fee anxieties or service disconnections, the company mentioned in the press release.

For users who rely on Coins.ph primarily as an everyday money app rather than a crypto trading exchange, the update streamlines routine household administration into a single interface.

How to Pay Meralco, Telco, and Government Bills in Coins.ph

To clear bills through the updated system:

  1. Update the App: Ensure your Coins.ph app is running the latest version on iOS or Android.
  2. Navigate to Payments: Tap the Pay Bills icon from the main dashboard screen.
  3. Select Your Biller: Search or select from the updated category list (e.g., Meralco for power, Globe/Smart for telco, or SSS/Pag-IBIG/PhilHealth for government fees).
  4. Input Account Details: Enter your reference or account number alongside the exact payment amount.
  5. Confirm Transaction: Review the details and submit. Payments for RTP-enabled billers will clear directly to the merchant within 24 hours.

Removing the Middleman

Under the hood, the partnership bypasses third-party aggregators that previously acted as intermediaries between the app and individual billers. Removing these middle layers eliminates backend failure points, reduces drop-off rates, and ensures direct-to-biller confirmation.

“We want to show how Coins.ph fits naturally into your daily life,” said Amira Alawi, Coins.ph Global Marketing Director. “By partnering with a household name as trusted as Bayad, we’re making it incredibly easy for our users to settle their utilities and everyday expenses with nearly 300 billers, all in just a few taps.”

Dennis Gatuslao, Chief Commercial & Marketing Officer of Bayad, highlighted that linking Bayad’s direct collection pipeline with Coins.ph’s digital wallet infrastructure creates a faster, friction-free environment for managing family budgets.

The expanded biller roster and real-time posting features are now fully live across all registered Coins.ph accounts on iOS and Android.

Coins.ph’s Expanding Ecosystem

While Coins.ph operates under Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) licensing as a virtual asset service provider (VASP) and electronic money issuer (EMI), the company has consistently maintained a dual focus on traditional financial utility alongside crypto services.

BitPinas has tracked several key milestones in Coins.ph’s ongoing platform evolution:

  • Coins.ph partnered with Clear Junction to provide native EUR and GBP payment rails, giving corporate clients access to SEPA, SEPA Instant, and Faster Payments networks across Europe and the UK.
  • Coins.ph expanded its national QRPh infrastructure to allow users to pay for everyday retail purchases using Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).
  • In an interview with BitPinas, Coins.ph Global Marketing Director Amira Alawi highlighted how stablecoin utility and QRPh payments are structured to simplify remittances and retail spending for mainstream users.
